St. Laurence's Church, Middleton St. George

Various bodies and individuals have recently had papers asking about the possible closure of St. Laurence's for public worship.

This may have felt like a decision that has already been taken and that people are being presented with a fait accompli.

This is far from the case.  The future is not a closed issue.

The paper that has been sent starts a process of two periods of wide and deep consultation.  One is conducted by the Diocese of Durham.  The second is conducted by the National Church.  The process will take a number of months to complete.  The outcome is not clear.  The local community and many others with an interest in the life of the church are being asked to contribute.  There will be opportunities for people to express themselves.

I am very grateful for a recent conversation with Councillors Doris and Brian Jones.  I have consulted with people in Middleton St. George and we would like to offer Saturday 18th September at 10.30 am in the school as an opportunity for an open public meeting at which we can clarify the situation and discuss the future together.  We look forward to seeing you.
