Did You Know ?
County Durham and Darlington have the lowest number of burglaries per head of population in the North East.
By working together we can make it even lower and Durham Constabulary has recently launched Operation Darc.
DON’T LEAVE YOUR HOUSE IN THE DARK
Fact
An unlit house during the hours of darkness has an increased risk of being burgled
Fact
Burglars do not like being seen (your crime prevention officer recommends that your home is lit both inside and out.
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT
Use timer switches in conjunction with energy saving light bulbs so that a light or radio can come on when it gets dark
Fit dusk to dawn lighting which comes on automatically when it gets dark
Fit key operated window locks to the ground floor windows
Fit a 5 lever mortice lock to the main entry door
Have key operated mortice bolts fitted to the top and bottom of doors.
Mark your property with your postcode and house number with a permanent marker
